Step Summary:
For this dance, I think it's easier to learn the steps; then, once you know the steps, you can learn the timings.
Section 1: "Cross"
Cross R over L, Hold for one count.
Step back onto L, R shuffle.
Cross L over R, Hold.
Step back onto R, L shuffle, ending with weight on L.
Section 2: "Taps"
Tap R toe behind L heel for 2 counts.
Step forward on R with a quarter turn to L.
Tap L heel forwards three times.
Step onto L, cross R over L, and repeat these two steps.
Step onto L, close R next to L.
Section 3: "Hips"
Step forward onto L as you do hip bumps LRL.
Step forward onto R and do hip bumps RLR, ending with weight on R.
Take a big step back onto L, and drag R "through", past L.
Finish the drag by moving smoothly into a coaster step (RLR ending with weight on R).
Section 4: "Stomp"
Stomp Up with L (ie no weight) ending with knee raised.
Half a pivot turn to left side.
Left shuffle forward.
Stomp Up with R, half a pivot turn to R.
Walk forward R, L....
and you are now ready to start the dance again with "Cross" - crossing right over left and holding.
Once you are confident with the steps, try doing them with the timings correct.
If we use the "&" sign to show you syncopated steps, try doing the dance while saying the following:
"Cross": 1, 2, & 3 & 4, (Cross = 5), 6, & 7 & 8
"Taps": 1, 2, & 3 & 4, & 5 & 6, 7, 8
"Hips": 1 & 2, 3 & 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8
"Stomp": 1, 2, 3 & 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
In section 2, for instance, that translates to:
Tap, tap, turn - tap -tap -tap, step and cross and step and cross, step, step
Does that help? Do let me know.... the counting really helped this dance "click" for me, and once you know it, it's really lovely to do.
Finally, don't forget to hold in Section 1 - otherwise the music doesn't fit very well!
Choreographed by Barry Berthold, from the USA..
Music: We learnt this initially to "Sierra" by Boz Scaggs. When you are ready to dance, click the pink "play" button below to hear the music.
